Then, they would sit back and wait their turn to be called upon for an interview. Many people have spent untold amounts of dollars and cents buying newspapers, hoping to get a job.

The fact of the matter is that most people don't obtain employment through want ads anymore. Although employers still place ads in the papers, this method is seen as outdated, and is only performed so that a company can seem as if they are hiring fairly. First, they should look online. There is a plethora of online resources, such as employment websites, state-sponsored workforce sites, as well as social networking sites. All that a person has to do, is take their pick of websites to look at, in order for them to find the employment they desire. Although many professionals on salary find their careers in this way, there are plenty of hourly paid employees who are finding their employment online. The best part about these online resources, is that they are all free! If a person has the time, then the job is out there, waiting to be found.
Another method that is huge in this new century, is actually an older method in finding hourly employment. This method is called networking. This simply means that a person uses their relationships to find employment. They could call upon an old coworker, a friend, or relatives, to use their resources and relationships to find out about open positions. It is estimated that at least 75% of all new applicants have found their current positions through networking methods. Particularly with the advent of social networking online, the phrase ''It's who you know'' is becoming more relevant than ever.
Of course, if a person knows exactly who they would like to work for on an hourly basis, then they can simply make a trip down to the company's human resource department. They can drop off their resume, and they can ask about any available positions. If there are no open positions that interest them, then they can keep following up with human resources until something comes up. Employers like to see a person that is so anxious for a job, that they will come down to the employer, and ask for a position.
