Employees in this position will independently set-up, operate and adjust Numerically Controlled (NC) machines that apply uncured composites, or other materials to a rotating tool. These employees will use control media/program documents and/or other data to produce parts that conform to specifications. Employees will work with other organizations to resolve problems, modify fixtures and tools, as required. Employees will perform dimensional checks during fiber placement process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Obtain job list/information from computer, tie-in book, drawings, documents, machine control media.
Ensure proper materials are on hand to perform job, e.g., carbon fiber, potting compound, tape, resins.
Make any preparations and adjustments to NC multi-axis (9 to 40 axes) fiber placement machine. Work with engineering/planning to resolve NC programming problems. Perform equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
Remove and replace faulty tools/cutters and take corrective action in accordance with shop practice.
Use manlifts and ladders to work on large parts.
Organize and sequence work so that time-sensitive material is used before it is out dated.
Perform conformance checks on parts using PME (Precision Measurement Equipment) e.g., Durometer, calipers, scales. Perform/assist others in hand lay-up and lamination. Work with stores to ensure time-sensitive material is available to manufacture parts/assemblies.
Operate NCTLM (Numerically Controlled Tape Laminating Machine).
Use sonic knife and slitter machine.
Use OLT (Optical Laser Tracker) to verify parts measurements are within specifications. Perform pecision drilling of composites.
Perform/assist lower graded employees with potting operations.
Operate SEMCO machine to facilitate potting operations.
Lift materials onto machine to perform parts production.
Perform bagging/debagging of parts/assemblies. Use chemicals to manufacture and clean parts.
Leave verbal/written pass-down for other shifts. Use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Obtain manlift and/or other certifications, e.g., visual acuity, respirator.

Required Skills & Experience:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
Experience with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, etc.)
Experience working with computers and MS Office Suite
Experience working with composites and exposure to moving parts and tools, pinch points, sharp cutters and slipping hazards.
