Assist, instruct and work with mechanics in various sub and final assembly shops, to assemble and install parts, structural components and sub assemblies on special project airframes, including aircraft and space vehicles. These sub assemblies are typically installed on the final assembly at various locations.
Employment in this position also requires twisting at the waist, use of low impact vibratory tools, walking, standing, carrying/lifting, rotation of head/neck, contact with metals, plastics, solvents, exposure to noise, and the use of personal safety gear for hand/arms, eyes and ears. Additional Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Obtain and verify kitted (pre-picked) detail parts, standards, and assemblies were issued correctly by comparing part numbers and quantities to drawing(s). Ensure that parts issued are effective for the airplane and are free of visible defects. Locate parts on assembly tools, mating parts and/or assemblies per drawing. Align parts to tool stops, matching pilot holes or by hand layout and secure in place using Clecos or tooling/hand clamps. Check for good edge margins and alignment. Shim parts as required per drawing. Drill, ream, countersink full size holes in parts and or assemblies, in proper sequence and to correct size, using a drill motor (e.g., Winslow, 90-degree power vane, or quackenbush) per drawing. Disassemble parts and deburr holes using chip chasers, deburring tools, and files to prepare for installation of fasteners. Use solvents to clean surfaces prior to sealing or assembly. Apply sealant, (e.g., Moldable Plastics Shim (MPS)), alodine, primer, adhesives and special finishes. Install fasteners (e.g., Eddie bolt, hi-lock) in correct sequence per drawing, using correct tools (e.g., Eddie ratchet wrench, rivet gun and bucking bar, c-squeeze, nut runner). Locate and install fuel, hydraulic, high pressure compressed gas lines, wire bundles into assemblies per drawing. Install bushings into housings using arbor press and/or hydraulic puller. Apply liquid nitrogen to facilitate installation of bushings. Roller/anvil swage or ball stake bearings and bushings into machined housings per drawing. Clean parts and identify by applying part marking. Check work after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job to ensure it is complete and there are no defects (e.g., gapped heads, high rivets, tool mark, incorrect length fasteners). Operate mechanical lifts of various types (e.g., scissor and snorkel lifts), to locate parts/assemblies into position or to perform assembly work. Move parts and/or assemblies using overhead cranes, stackers and pallet jacks. Clean work area and assemblies to ensure that all Foreign Object Debris (FOD) has been removed. Submit completed job or in-process checks to inspector at appropriate steps in sequence, using an electronic call sheet. Perform minor rework as required (e.g., pick ups, NCO (Non Conformance Order). Assist higher graded employees performing testing/installation (e.g., mechanical, electrical, ordnance). Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner.

Frequent use of personal protective equipment for face/eyes and occasional use of hand/arm and ear protection may be required.
Experience with close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation
Experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools
Proficiency in reading blueprints and structural drawings
Experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators
Must be able to obtain and maintain personnel certifications as required to support job responsibilities.
Occasional contact with metals, exposure to plastics and solvents and exposure to atmospheric conditions

This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.
This position requires occasional (1-3 Hrs) Finger manipulation, Flexion/Extension, Handling, Lifting less than 25 pounds, Carrying less than 10 lbs, Rotation of head/neck, Sitting, Standing, and Walking.
High school graduate or GED preferred
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a â€œUS Personâ€ as defined by 22 C.F.R. Â§ 120.15 is required. US Person includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
